Worm-compressed-300x300AURORA, Co. — A four-year-old girl in Colorado has been booted from preschool after her mother expressed concern over diversity teaching in the classroom that included books on homosexuality and gender identity.

R.B. Sinclair told the Denver Post this week that her daughter’s preschool teacher at Montview Community Preschool and Kindergarten had been reading books to the children on same-sex “couples” and about worms questioning their gender.

She said that her daughter came home one day and expressed concern that her father would no longer like girls.

Sinclair approached officials and requested that her daughter be able to opt out of the teaching, but was told that it was part of the diversity curriculum and that opting out wasn’t an option as the lessons were interspersed throughout the day.
Sinclair says her daughter is already exposed to diversity as the family is bi-racial and has been raised in both Muslim and western culture.“I think at this age they don’t know what bias is. They could have kids from Mars and they would still play with each other,” Sinclair said. “It’s not that she isn’t exposed to diversity, because it is the world we live in. But how are they having these conversations?”

According to reports, the preschool sent a letter home to parents defending the books and also published a newsletter article that suggests ways parents can teach their children about diversity, including in regard to homosexuality. (Click here to read more)
