Nintendo Turns Down Campaign for Same-Sex Relationships in Life-Simulation Game

Stoyan Zaimov | Christian Post Reporter

tomodachijpg.jpg.size.xxlarge.letterboxNintendo said that it will not be adding the option of same-sex relationships in one of its popular life-simulation games after a social media campaign called for such an inclusion.

“Nintendo never intended to make any form of social commentary with the launch of ‘Tomodachi Life,'” Nintendo of America Inc. said in a statement, according to The Associated Press. “The relationship options in the game represent a playful alternate world rather than a real-life simulation. We hope that all of our fans will see that ‘Tomodachi Life’ was intended to be a whimsical and quirky game, and that we were absolutely not trying to provide social commentary.”

The social media campaign to the video games giant was launched by a 23-year-old gay man from Mesa, Arizona, who said that he wanted the option in the game to marry his real-life partner.

“I want to be able to marry my real-life fiancé’s Mii, but I can’t do that,” Tye Marini said. “My only options are to marry some female Mii, to change the gender of either my Mii or my fiancé’s Mii or to completely avoid marriage altogether and miss out on the exclusive content that comes with it.”

Tomodachi Life, which was first released in Japan in April 2013 and is set for a June release in North America and Europe on the Nintendo 3DS, allows players to use their own voice and input their own personality in the game avatars. The players can perform various real-life activities, including falling in love with other avatars, but only those of the opposite sex.

The tag-line reads: “Your friends. Your drama. Your life.”

Marini said on Tuesday that the same-sex relationships issue is relevant to this particular game, as it is supposed to be a representation of people’s real personality. He has been urging other players to join the Twitter and Facebook hashtag #Miiquality campaign as part of the effort.

Nintendo said, however, that same-sex relationships are not part of the original Japanese game, which uses the same code as the upcoming North American and European versions. It added that it is aware of the hashtag campaign, and will “continue to listen and think about the feedback.”

A May 2013 Ipsos global survey found that Japan remains more conservative on the issue than many western countries, with only 24 percent of the population supporting same-sex marriage, which is not legal there ; 27 percent support some kind of legal recognition for same-sex couples.

    To all reading this,

You really have no idea the financial loss Nintendo has undergone for trying to keep their business family friendly ,

They were offered numerous times the opportunity to have the game “Grand Theft Auto 5” on their system but they stood true to their business model of a family friendly console even though such a franchise would provide them with sales.

Not saying every game on their console is christian friendly but I would say 80% – 90% are.

Support businesses who provide games that are suitable for kids.

I’m very proud of this stance! Man and woman, why must we keep confusing little kids? They can not make up their own minds about relationships if homosexuality is constantly the for front of every topic in this world! When is it enough? Way to go Nintendo for standing ground!

Man this is getting out of hand gay everything. Listen you gay people we dont hate yall im a sinner as well but society is telling you guys its ok to be gay it is not it is a sin period no matter what the government say or celebs. You guys are fighting for the right to have sex with the same sex that’s what this is all about, you can love each other good we are suppose to love each other but you cross the line when you lust and have sex. This movement is all about sex I have never seen anything like this shame on this government for pushing this agenda. Im sorry folks im tired I cant enjoy nothing God help you all myself included stop force feeding these children please I digress.

Marriage is a Sacred act between man and woman, condoned, blessed and instituded by God. Sacred Consecrated to God, that is why we call it holy matrimony. Sex outside of marriage is considered fornication sin .Sex with same sex God called this sin of fornication discribed as abomination . God does not condone sin period! An accurate description of the last days is the quest of the rights of the people rather than the ways of God. Laodicea.means rights of the people and represents the latter day church. (Revelation 4:14-22)

I’m so glad Nintendo hasn’t gave into all of the LGBT bullying tactics. I am not sorry when I say this, LGBT’s need to really chill out. They are pushing for too much all at once. We know your little group exist, but I mean every day we have to hear about it at least once and I am so over their corrupt agenda. Come on, why do they have to pervert every single thing. We parents that have young children honestly don’t want them to even have to hear or see what LGBT’s are doing and now they want to take over games. (Not that my children own this game, but still) I’m so over this LGBT Agenda, they are starting to have more rights than Christians, you know the ones that believe God created the heavens and earth, He created them male and female… It is so freaking frustrating. Some one really needs to rain on their pride rainbow, that they so perverted!! Thanks EX Ministries for all updates! You all are truly opening eyes and making our savior pleased for letting as much as those who want the truth really know what’s going on. Thanks!

WOW, sin is never satisfied! Really it’s not enough for the LGBT to invade our communities but they want to come into our homes uninvited to corrupt our children and us as well. I don’t play video games but cudos to Nintendo for taking a stand for rightousness.

I am frightened that this agenda is trying to infiltrate the video game industry. Even though video games are for everyone these days I still think of children and toys when I hear the words “video game”. This is a Wake up call. I wrote Nintendo and told them to leave the games as is MAN WOMAN couples.
