Report: Abortion Rate Drops 12 Percent in U.S., But Hundreds of Thousands Still Killed Each Year

Baby-VII-300x199A new report compiled by the Associated Press (AP) states that abortion rates have declined 12 percent on average in the United States since 2010, but also shows that hundreds of thousands of unborn children are still being killed each year.

The AP gathered the information from the 45 states who have reporting requirements with the state health department. It found that while abortion rates were decreasing most in states that have passed more regulations for abortion facilities, the death rate for the unborn was also still declining in states that have fewer restrictions.

The rates varied from state to state, with the only locations showing an increase in abortion to be Louisiana and Michigan. Louisiana saw a 12 percent increase, while Michigan saw an 18 percent increase. Some believe that the uptick is due to residents of other states, such as Texas and Ohio, traveling elsewhere for an abortion due to closures in their area.

In Florida, the abortion rate fell 9.8 percent since 2010, from 79,908 deaths to 72,107 deaths. In New York, the rate decreased 15.2 percent, from 111,212 babies being killed in 2010 to 94,326 losing their lives in 2013. Washington State saw a 16.7 percent decrease, with the tally falling from 21,124 yearly abortions to 17,592. And in, North Carolina, the abortion rate fell 26 percent, from 30,952 deaths in 2010 to 22,820 in 2013.

In Texas and Ohio, where abortion regulations were stated to have influenced the decline in unborn deaths, the abortion rate decreased 12 percent and 17.4 percent respectively. Abortions in Texas decreased from 72,592 in 2010 to 63,849 in 2013. In Ohio, the abortion tally went from 28,123 in 2010 to 23,216 in 2013.

States such as California, New Jersey and Wyoming were not included in the report as abortion facilities are not required to report tallies to the state health department.

Abortion activists attribute the drop to greater use of birth control nationwide, while pro-life advocates state that there is a societal shift in attitude toward abortion due to the use of ultrasounds and other educational resources.

There’s an entire generation of women who saw a sonogram as their first baby picture,” Charmaine Yoest, the president of Americans United for Life, told the AP. “There’s an increased awareness of the humanity of the baby before it is born.”

But while abortion rates fell as a whole in nearly every state, the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, saw a slight increase in abortions in the past two years after an initial drop in 2011.

As previously reported, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America released its annual report earlier this year, in which was noted that the organization alone performed 327,653 abortions nationwide during the 2013-2014 fiscal year, up from 327,166 the year prior.

There had been 333,964 abortions performed by the organization in 2011.

Planned Parenthood was founded in 1921 by Margaret Sanger, which was originally known as the American Birth Control League. She later changed the name as some found it offensive.

“We are paying for, and even submitting to, the dictates of an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all,” Sanger once said, who was reportedly a staunch advocate of eugenics. “The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”

Sanger was also the publisher of the newspaper “The Woman Rebel,” which she subtitled “No Gods, no masters.”

  1. No gods, no master, but me. This should have been the subtitle to her paper. This very same thing is written in The Book of Enoch. How the fallen angels taught man this, so that the women could keep their figures, continue to fornicate without need to bare, or care for children, and ( the real reason) to rebel against God’s true order. The word is true, their is no new thing under the sun. It’s been noted that Sanger was a terrible mother to her own children, and was not very faithful to her husbands. Go figure.

Psalms 2:1 Why does the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
