Rob Bell to Oprah: Church Is ‘Moments Away’ from Embracing Same-Sex ‘Marriage’

By Heather Clark | christiannews.net

BellThis past Sunday, during an episode of Oprah’s “Super Soul Sunday,” Rob Bell, the former head “pastor” of Michigan’s Mars Hill Bible Church and author of “Love Wins,” a book questioning the orthodox Christian view of Hell, told the talk show host that he believes the Church is “moments away” from embracing same-sex “marriage.”

Bell had appeared on the broadcast with his wife Kristen to discuss their book “The Zimzum of Love: A New Way of Understanding Marriage.”

“I think it’s great that you all made a conscious choice to include gay marriage in [the book],” Oprah states following a clip showing Mrs. Bell reading a selection claiming that same-sex nuptials are a gift to the world. “Why [did you do that]?”

“One of the oldest aches in the bones of humanity is loneliness,” Rob Bell replied. “Loneliness is not good for the world. Whoever you are, gay or straight, it is totally normal, natural and healthy to want someone to go through life with. It’s central to our humanity. We want someone to go on the journey with.”

“When is the Church going to get that?” Oprah asked.

“We’re close,” he responded.

“I think it’s evolving,” Bell’s wife interjected.

“Lots of people are already there,” Bell added. “We think it’s inevitable and we’re moments away from the Church accepting it.”

He asserted that the Church will “continue to be even more irrelevant” if it continues to cite the Bible’s prohibitions on homosexual behavior.

“I think culture is already there, and the Church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense,” Bell said, “when you have in front of you flesh-and-blood people who are your brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles, and co-workers and neighbors, and they love each other and just want to go through life.”

“There are churches who are moving forward and there are churches who are almost regressing and making it more of a battle,” his wife added.

As previously reported, Bell first publicly came out in support of same-sex “marriage” in 2013.

“I am for marriage. I am for fidelity. I am for love, whether it’s a man and woman, a woman and a woman, a man and a man,” he said. “I think the ship has sailed and I think the church needs—I think this is the world we are living in and we need to affirm people wherever they are.”

Bell likewise opined that many evangelicals can no longer be classified as conservatives because their beliefs have changed with the times.

“I think we are witnessing the death of a particular subculture that doesn’t work. … You sort of die or you adapt,” he asserted. “And we have supported policies and ways of viewing the world that are actually destructive. And we’ve done it in the name of God and we need to repent.”

In light of his controversial views, some have said that Bell is leading many down a dark and destructive path.

“Plain and simple, Rob Bell’s teachings are not true to the words of Scripture,” Eric Ludy, pastor of Church at Ellerslie and president of Ellerslie Mission Society in Windsor, Colorado, told Christian News Network in 2013. “They are a sly attempt at blending the philosophies of our post-modern age with the vernacular of pop-Christianity. The end product is highly dangerous to the human soul because it is the forging of a golden calf god—a god of our culture’s making—and certainly not the God of the Bible.”

Mr Bell has booked his passage to hell and he wants company. The frontal attack on the Bible is not surprising from a “former pastor” is not surprising. The Bible says

2 Peter 2:22 (KJV) But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Obviously this man was never saved. So sorry to sees a lost soul wallowing in the mud of secular abomination. Hope he and his wife really repents.

Where do we draw the line?
Who is this so called preacher to say that the 2000 year old Word is not still the same Word of God,and that he is the qualifier for the church to say that this perversion is to be excepted by God’s people or the Gospel of Jesus Christ will die. The devil is a liar and God does not change His mind to cater to mankind evil desires to except Him.

Jesus is Lord of lords and Kings of kings……

What is the Church suppose to get, the word is plain on this topic, its not open to interpretation by every tom dick and Sodomites, why are we trying our hardest to conform to the world, be in the world but not of it.
if the world is doing something we as Children of God (and I use that term loosely because there are churches pushing the agenda of the enemy as seen in the post above), when is folks church folks going to realize that Oprah is not speaking for Christianity her view is warped and it doesn’t take the revelation of God to see that these Homosexuals have an agenda. And who is Bell to speak of the death of a scripture, it is what it is you just cant. delete what you don’t like because it goes against your homosexual agenda (Mr.. Bell). 2015 and no one seem to want to stand against this Hypocrisy.

Mr. Bell apparently thinks that hell will not be full enough and has decided to enter his reservation for a seat ni the front row.

What profits a man to gain the world and loose his Soul?
It’s the LOVE of money that’s the root of evil now go and
Sell your book of deception and make alot of money.
You don’t represent or speak for Christians and it’s insanity
to talk about changing with the times Against Scripture!
YOU ARE THE ONE WHO NEED TO REPENT!

The anti-Christ agenda is clearly no longer a thing that we dialog about. It is self evident and not under disguise. May God cover us his people and renew His right spirit in us everyday.

I saw this clip on YouTube. Not surprised it was on Oprah’s OWN network. She is involved with several suspect offerings, reality TV on preachers, pushing T.D. Jakes, etc.
In 2010 God alerted me to the divisiveness this issue would cause and its spread across this nation. It’s affects on society is everything from our laws to the Church. He also explained that “the falling away” was the straying from Biblical doctrines and principles and I see it happening now to a much larger extent with same sex marriage being the center of it. This inclusionist movement isn’t of God. The warning is clear, we are to stick with what is written and not accept a different Gospel.

He said the church will continue to be more irrelevant if it continues to cite the Bible’s prohibitions on homosexual behaviour. “Well Mr. Bell (cause I really can’t call you pastor), I prefer to be irrelevant and continue to call homosexuality a sin and spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus Christ than be relevant and spend an eternity in hell with you. Because if you don’t repent, that’s where you and all homosexuals will end up!”

  9. Beeb

There is a spirit that has been at work in the church and it’s evident in how the church must change in order for society and people to embrace it. Does the word not say how God will come to earth as man, be rejected and live and die for the salvation of many? Key word there, rejection. Why must we try to change and make sense of what is clearly listed as sin and try to reason it away? That goes for any of them. Adultery, murder, homosexuality, etc. No one greater in trespass than another.

I can never agree that it’s best or what’s right, to turn away from the source of instruction given for mankind’s ultimate good (best interest).

Stick to your Word. Carve out prayer time and dedicate yourself to it. Love is always the heart of the message, and we as Christians should never judge, condemn or shut out anyone, but what good is instruction if man turn his heart from it, and go according to his own way. Starts becoming the blind leading the blind. Celebrities don’t always have the right answers, and neither do i, but beware of the source of that power and influence. Just saying…Praise God who is merciful, just and in charge. the same yesterday, today, always and forever.

No matter where you are, stand firm in your beliefs, but may The Lord constantly refresh and soften our hearts for one another in LOVE. I pray this for us all. the only true love. In Jesus Name. Amen.

  10. Rayme Torai

What Rob Bell doesn’t understand is that the Church is our Lord Jesus Christ’s and NOT Rob Bell’s. The Apostle Paul received revelation from God regarding homosexuality. The Lord Jesus Christ doesn’t want it in His Church PERIOD! Rob Bell is a heretic leading people away from the True God. Why is he even calling himself a Pastor when he doesn’t even want to obey Jesus Christ?

  11. Ivan

I agree with Mr. Rob Bell. The Laodicean church will in fact embrace and conform to every kind of immorality under the guise of “the love and acceptance of the Lord”; however, the TRUE church, the Bride of Christ, also know in Revelation as the Church of Philadelphia, though ‘few’ in numbers (the remnant) will hold onto the unadulterated Gospel of Jesus Christ with what little strength they (we) have left. Lord God, help me to stay under the blood of the Lamb. Help all the readers including myself continue to fall in love with Your Word in its purest form, untainted and unquestionable because if it were possible, the spirit of deception would fool the VERY elect. We need not think we’re so strong that we can’t fall prey to the spirit of deception that’s prevading this world. If we (and let me make it personal, if I) dont remain humble and prayerful, we (i) can be deceived. As one man of God preached, “you can’t separate the love of God from His holiness”. Yes the Son of Man, Christ Jesus, loves us all (that’s His nature) but He can not stand sin and is altogether holy (that’s His character) and they’re inseparable. 2nd Chronicles 7:14

  12. Jack

Mr. Bell states ” You sort of die or you adapt. ” Newsflash, God will not adapt to your desires. You must adapt to his desires. As Christians we are supposed to be dead to this world and it’s fashion. No ” sort of ” about it.
These people who push for this are lobbyists. They are not doing it so that people won’t be lonely. We all know
what lobbyists get in return for their voice. A 2,000 year old letter from a being that has lived forever is very
current, relevant, and our best defense. Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
The good thing about being dead, ( in Christ ) is that you don’t have to adapt to anything, but him.

Thank you EX for all of your emails. I don’t have the time to search myself, but I am grateful for you all that keep us well informed.

God is good, the light always shine and the dark has already been defeated! The enemy can not stand! Have a glorious day!

The Church does not stop the gay community from being gay we, will not say its of God because it absolutely is not. The church that says it is, is not of God but of the devil period.

I am very sad and afraid after reading this conversation with Oprah. I pray God will not have to look for 50, 40 or 30 righteous people before He demolishes the United States as he did in Sodom and Gomorrah. I have to wonder what will it look like when all the states accept same sex marriage…perhaps the answer is found in Genesis 19.

27Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord. 28He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.

Perhaps my thinking may sound a bit ludicrous, but what else can we say about the United States if it is not mentioned in the book of Revelation. Pastor Lewis can you please respond?

  16. dbm

To me this all leads back to deficits.I am trying my hardest not to make this a cultural issue because at the end of the day it is a SIN issue.I was caught up with Oprah Winfrey years ago, because I was not in the Word of God and she was filling deficits in my life just through the talk show. But at the end of the day, she does not recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and King. So why would she even be a spokesperson for the Christian Church or even this Rob Bell?Jesus said that He and the Father are one. When is that going to be good enough? The reason why I mentioned this being a cultural issue because of influential African American church leaders as the ones that gave Oprah a platform over God Himself.I refuse to follow those leaders I don’t care how popular they are.

I don’t know if I should scream or cry of travesty or sadness. It is an ‘ABOMINATION’ for a man to lay down for ano -ther man, or a woman to lay down with another woman. We are ABSOLUTELY crazy/lukewarm to accept Elton John and “his” husband David Furnish (not “beloved” wife!), “expecting” in return to raise “healthy” children (two-dad union)! No wonder that the good ole’ USA (“In God We Trust”) is going down the slippery slope of the Final Judgment! As a ‘normal’ man, how can a man find another man ‘sexy’ or ‘very attractive’? It is highly tragic when mankind calls “bad is good, while good is bad”. We are truly returning to the days of the Roman Empire. Thank God that I am a vocal and proud Canadian, eh?!?

    1. 1 servant

I’m still trying to figure out how a “normal man ” can say that a man lying with a man is okay like this so called pastor would have us to believe

  18. Lazard

WOW! Is there any wonder that Christians need to pray. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land,” 2 Chron 7:14. Fortunately, I read the back of the book (Bible), the church wins!! Sinners do what is expected of sinners, they sin; God is expecting the Body of Christ (the Church) to do what is expected of us, walk in love, have faith in Him, pray, live a life of obedience and holiness, and remain steadfast, immoveable always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing your labor is not in vain in the Lord 1 Co. 15:58. God will never compromise with sin, we who are in Christ Jesus know that; the world will never understand that because it is spiritual discerned. They try to discern spiritual matters based on the desires of their flesh. One thing is for sure, nothing that is going on in society today has caught God by surprise. I feel sorry for Rob Bell, Oprah, and others who take the position of self-righteousness for they fail to realize that the very people (church) whom they are criticizing are the same ones who are concern for their eternal destiny. If we say that homosexuality is a sin, it is only because God said it is sin.

    1. jack

Great comment sir, ” it is only because God said it was a sin.” I wish they all would see that, and it is nothing personal. It’s a code of conduct. Great comment.

  19. melissa

How can he said that he is a pastor and not believe in the word of God. He is going to have a lot of blood on his hands if he don’t stop going against the word of God. Sad time we are living in.

  20. Jack

When these people say this. They got to know it’s getting rid of the whole reason Christ fasted in the wilderness.
Lust of the flesh. eye, and pride of life. And exactly what homosexuality is, and all sin, if this make them,or anyone else feel any better. The end of this 2,000 year old letter says not to change anything written in it. So much for adaptation.

  21. Gerald Polk

And false prophets, shall shew great signs and wonders insomuch that if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. This what has happen to Pastor Rob Bell and wife the book of Jude says we must contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints. The must. have forgotten that all power belongs to God and the blood still works and wil never lose it power.they are becoming infadels that are in for hell
