TV Preachers Glowingly Describe Meeting with Pope to Tear Down ‘Walls of Division’

By Garrett Haley | christiannews.net

Meeting-with-the-PopeROME – Two controversial TV preachers recently met Pope Francis in an effort to work toward tearing down the ‘walls of division’ between Catholics and Protestants.

Kenneth Copeland and James Robison are two religious leaders in northeast Texas known for drawing huge crowds to their services and events, and who were a part of leading the group identifying as a “delegation of Evangelical Christian leaders” in its meeting with the Roman Catholic pontiff late last month.

Copeland heads Kenneth Copeland Ministries and Eagle Mountain International Church, while Robison is an “apostolic elder” at Gateway Church and co-hosts the Life Today TV program.

In 2008, CBS News released a detailed report on Kenneth Copeland Ministries, saying an investigation “raises serious questions about the Copeland’s religious empire.” For example, according to the report, the “ministry” operates private jets which are often used for vacation trips.

“In my viewpoint,” one of the Copelands’ former employees told CBS News, “I believe that they were using a lot of the ministry’s assets for personal businesses.”

The Copelands have also been accused of promoting the so-called “prosperity gospel.”

“God knows where the money is, and he knows how to get the money to you,” Copeland’s wife, Gloria, once preached, according to The New York Times.

Like the Copelands, Robison has been criticized for straying from traditional biblical teaching. He once invited “Father” Jonathan Morris to his Life Today TVprogram and praised his Catholic beliefs and practices.

“As a Protestant, every time you talk—every time I see you, I see Jesus,” Robison told Morris, according to Ken Silva at Apprising.org.

“I wish most Protestant preachers had the sensitivity, and discernment, and gift to communicate that you have,” Robison added.

This month, Copeland and Robison are once again the focus of controversy after news surfaced that they both visited Pope Francis at the Vatican in late June. Afterward, Robison said the meeting was an answered prayer, describing it as a “supernatural gathering” and “an unprecedented moment between evangelicals and the Catholic Pope.”

“On [June 24], for nearly three hours, a few of us were blessed to meet in an intimate circle of prayerful discussion,” Robison wrote in a blog post.

Several other evangelicals, including Robison’s wife, were present at the meeting, which was organized by an Episcopal bishop.

“This meeting was a miracle,” Robison told Fort Worth’s Star-Telegram after returning from Rome. “This is something God has done. God wants his arms around the world. And he wants Christians to put his arms around the world by working together.”

“The world is suffering,” Robison added. “We as Christians have too much love to share without fighting one another.”

Robison said he enjoyed every moment with the leader of the Roman Catholic church, saying he even gave Pope Francis a friendly high-five.

“We continued in such glorious fellowship that words could never begin to describe it,” he wrote. “I am fighting back tears even as I write, so glorious was the manifest presence of Jesus.”

Copeland shared similarly positive sentiments about the visit. According to Robison’s blog post, Copeland “lovingly” spoke “a few words of encouragement” to Pope Francis, afterward praying for him.

When news of the ecumenical get-together at the Vatican was publicized, many Christians expressed disappointment, saying it was unwise for the evangelical leaders to meet with Pope Francis.

“What fellowship does light have with darkness?” one commenter asked. “Roman Catholicism has never been and never will be Christian. You cannot unite what is not the same—that is called being unequally yoked!”

“We should bear in mind [that] Catholic doctrine can never marry with the doctrine of Jesus Christ,” another argued.

“There is a huge difference between loving and helping your neighbor and adopting their heresies,” a third asserted.

As previously reported, megachurch speaker Joel Osteen similarly met with Pope Francis at the Vatican in early June. After the meeting, Osteen praised the Pope’s attempts to make the church “more inclusive.”

I’m not at all suprise. Lord have mecry. Where to go, because local church leaders love to follow, quote and mimic these famous preachers in churches world wide too. Home worship perhaps??

I agree Martinette, I feel like its getting to the point where you can’t trust most pastors these days, from the smaller, local churches, to the megachurches, to the ones on tv. Many are truly being deceived and we have to remain sober and vigilant and pray that the Lord will show us where he wants us to be, that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to do.

I don’t need to watch it. I have the Bible and the Bible teaches me that the Christian faith is that which was given to the Apostles and faithfully handed down from generation to generation.

You need to get the book THE DANCE OF ISAIAH. Written by an X Fundamentalist and Calvinist, it shows you how the covenant of God and a proper understanding of it proves that the Catholic faith is true.

Now….if you or anyone here wishes to debate me….contact me at edwardh317 AT verizon DOT net and let’s hav at it!

The Early Fathers, who fought heresies similar to Protestantism tooth and nail, must be spinning in their graves like a pinwheels. It is sad to see the truth and light of the universal faith which Christ left with the Apostles lower itself to the lowest common denominator and water itself down. Why would the truth, which is one, want to accommodate itself to Protestantism, which is in such a state of utter chaos?

Jesus said that the Father seeks those who wish to worship Him in spirit and TRUTH. Protestantism is not truth, and some of it is dangerous and wicked.

    Lord have mercy!!!

Roman Catholocism is, at best man made and at worse, the mechanics of satan. You might want to get a clue or better yet get an inkling before you post. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  3. walk23

I saw Kenneth Copeland being seduced by the Pope via Tony Palmer on You Tube. I am shocked that he would follow after such foolishness, being Spirit filled. I pray for those who I grew up with and watched and introduced me to the Good News. I believe we owe these leaders our prayers as spiritual wickedness is at work in high places and our leaders need clarity on this tempting by the Pope.
Why would anyone want to return to Catholocism ?

    1. Edward A. Hara

Why would anyone want to follow a religion (Protestantism) which was invented 1500 years after Christ gave the faith to the Apostles. There is no evidence — none whatsoever — of the existence of any practices of faith other than those found in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches for the first 1500 years of Christianity.

It is spiritually wicked to invent a religion 1500 years after Christ gave the faith of God to the Apostles. To deny the Sacraments, to deny the authority of the Holy Father, to believe in lies that have been told about the Catholic faith for 1500 years, is wicked.

      1. walk23

Edward, Roman Catholocism came after the Day of Pentecost. History tells us the time of its inception and it is after the days of Peter. History also tells us that Constatine had much to do with its rise and that it is an ammalgamation of pagan and Christian beliefs. Surely you have read a little leaven leavens the whole lump. Holy Father as you call him and who Scripture defines as from the linage of the son of perdition or the man of sin.
One thing I do know is that Christ left the work to the Same Spirit that worked in Him and the Apostles and continues and builds His Church today. He gives discernment to those who seek it about Mother Church and Holy Father and has shown many that the Roman Catholic Church is the biggest cult in history and is the Harlot written about in the Book of Revelation.
The little leaven in this cult is the work of Satan.

        1. Edward A. Hara

Reading those Chick tracts again, are we? Let’s see if we can help you a bit.

          1. The Eucharist, where Jesus said “This IS my Body” (not “This represents my Body”) was before Pentecost. The Eucharist is the heart of the Christian faith, not preaching.

          2. Your statement on Constantine is laughable at best, and utter ignorance at worst. Are you aware that Constantine moved the capital to Byzantium and had it renamed Constantinople precisely because he wanted to do something about those who were in Rome and were trying to paganize the Christian faith? No, of course, you aren’t, because you are as ignorant of true history as I was when I was a Fundamentalist. You have been fed lies and you willingly believe them.

          3. Jesus promised that the gates of hell would never — did you get that, NEVER — overcome the Church. What does it feel like to call Jesus a liar?

          4. The book of Revelation is about the destruction of Jerusalem. It is written in highly symbolic language and you have to study it carefully to try to even begin to understand it. The idea that it is about the Church is preposterous on many counts.

          5. The faith that Christ left with the Church is found in the writings and sermons of the first pastors of the Church. They are called the Early Fathers. Get a copy of Jurgen’s FAITH OF THE EARLY FATHERS and read it and stop being ignorantly led about by men who have no clue of what Christianity is.

          1. walk23

The gates of hell shall not prevail against who he is, or the rock of revelation that was just given to Peter. Catholics have misunderstood this verse for centuries because they have not put it into context. I don’t want to argue but it is one of the misunderstanding the Catholic Church got wrong by referring to tothe church instead of that which God had just revealed to Peter. The Catholic Church read that with a carnal mind and not with a spiritual mind. If you were spiritual, the Spirit would clarify with your spirit what I am saying is correct. It takes the Spirit to reveal the depth of what is written, something you evidently have no clue on.
Take care and go argue your views with a priest or the Pope.

The Bible predicts a great apostasy that will take place before the emergence of the antichrist in 2 Thess. 2:3. These men are clearly deceived. This is just the beginning. People of God look up, for your redemption draws night.

  5. Kevin Irving

This hurt my heart to see Kenneth Copeland do such a thing. I sincerely ache when I think that before God delivered me from these ministries, I spent over 23 years following these ministers trying to please God only to find out that they serve themselves. I understand what the scripture says that even the elect would’ve been fooled. What hurts is that I sincerely thought what we did was okay because Kenneth Copeland taught the word like a scholar. To a new Christian or weak minded(weak in scriptures) Christian who didn’t read the scriptures accurately, it’s next to impossible to understand what lines ministers like Clarence Mcclendon, Kenneth Copeland and others as such are crossing because you just believe what they say. The only way for me to be delivered was that I learned of the truth from EX ministries for myself. Then and only then, was I able to study the scriptures correctly and see for myself what lines were crossed. I am ashamed of my participating in these ministries like Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and such. Even more, I hurt for those that are trapped in them thinking that they are serving Christ because they simply don’t know the truth, coupled with how to correctly study the scriptures. I pray that God brings about an Exodus of these believers that want to truly serve Christ and not false teachers who pretend to be Christ’s true followers. Now I understand why Jesus said that these ministers don’t allow others to enter the Kingdom of God because they aren’t reaching Jesus as the only truth and mediator for their lives by knowing what the scriptures accurately say. These false ministers are standing in Christ’s place because of their busyness and appearance of importance and righteousness when in fact they are messengers of Satan. You’d think that Kenneth Copeland who appears to be like a scholar would know that the Pope must atone for the 95 thesis(and all other atrocities against God and King Jesus Christ) instead of just the 1 thesis that he is trying to say is what separated Catholics from Protestants/Christians.

Let’s not be too hasty in our judgement of these pastors; their hearts could be in the right place.
After all, Christians should want to embrace all races, color and ALL denomination hoping to gain the OPPORTUNITY to win them over to the only true living God. Keep in mind that there will be in that great number the Baptist, Presbyterians, Catholics, Holiness, Seven Day Adventist, and all denominations because in every one of these churches someone in that church is parts of the body of Christ . Why? because they have given their hearts over to God. It’s not what church you belong to that qualifies you as Christian its rather you met heaven’s qualification through the shed blood of Jesus Christ..

Reach out , extend a helping hand – In any event, It this IS PART OF OR THE BEGINNING OF THE ONE WORLD CHURCH you have no worry; hopefully you will be gone in the (caught away before its completed)
The scripture state “He who wins souls is wise”

Really we are at the very end of time
Could this be part of the fulfillment of Bible prophecy

I might asked the question; Who else would likely be candidates ( other than pastors,, ministers etc) , for help forming possibly the end-times One World Church like unto the
One World Government etc ? Look at the whole picture even the Pope is in agreement
It all suppose to begin just like this
with peace and unity then sudden destruction

    2 Timothy 3

    Difficult Times Ahead
1 But know this: difficult times will come in the last days. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, 4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to the form of religion but denying its power. Avoid these people! 6 For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions, 7 always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith. 9 But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also.

    The Sacred Scriptures
10 But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance, 11 along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. 12 In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 Evil people and imposters will become worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing those from whom you learned, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

    About “Father”
Matthew 23:9 Do not call anyone on earth your father, because you have one Father, who is in heaven.

What is the meaning of pope?
Roman Catholic Answer Pope is from the Italian for “Papa” – it means “Father”, in this case, the Holy Father.

    — uh oh….and the word clearly says to call no man on earth father, the pope is still a man on earth.
What does the Bible say about the pope / papacy?
