wptv-porn-sunday_1412267615446_8641897_ver1.0_640_480CHESAPEAKE, Va.(WAVY/CNN) – Signs of all shapes and sizes line most roads, begging drivers for attention. But six signs along

several roads in Chesapeake, Va., caught the attention of driver this week. The signs are inviting people to attend “Porn Sunday”, an

event hosted by a church that’s being held at a local high school to discuss the dangers of pornography.

Pastor Joel Brown says it’s a bit shocking, but the subject needs to be discussed.

“It might be uncomfortable, but I think the best thing for us to do, if we truly love our kids, is to equip them before they go and see the collateral damage of an addiction,” said Brown.

Brown is also bringing in former porn star Shelley Lubben to talk about the industry.

“Pornography baits and switches you,” Brown said. “It’s an addiction that will kill your business, your family and your relationships.”

While the signs have caught the attention of many, they also garnered an unexpected response.

“It’s weird. Who would advertise like this?” asked Chesapeake resident Sarah Jorgensen. “I don’t think it should be at a school, but then again, it probably shouldn’t be at a church also.”

Church officials say they put the signs up last Friday, but by Sunday someone had stolen all of them. However, they say they plan to put up more signs this weekend.

In addition, Saturday morning the church will host “Porn and Pancakes” for men to “connect, eat and get informed on the dangers of porn.”

There is a significant problem when a church tries to crafty to lure people into a much need conversation. This is not wise but counterproductive. The method is perverted and misleading. Promoting this kind of foolishness to (manipulate) people into coming to Church to receiving deliverance is witchcraft.  However, if you go to Shelley Lubben’s website for information you will almost need a disclaimer for sexuality explicit content. And whats with the “Porn and Pancakes!” — really? really.. we need to stop it! Lubben’s website is too vague and doesn’t clearly present the gospel. It’s merely a page full of information, porn stories and questionable X rated videos.

According to her homepage, “Tired of being addicted to porn? Nowhere to turn and no one to trust? Need privacy? Dr. Shelley Lubben wants to help you! I offer absolute confidentiality, extreme compassion and large doses of love and truth to help you recover from pornography addiction for less than 65 cents a day!”

We can not let our good be evil spoken of. Sexual sin like any other sin is being address all throughout the body of Christ contrary to popular belief. There are pastors and ministries addressing SIN without using a bait and switch.

” I’ve been to her website right after my deliverance from porn and masturbation and found her site to be so racy that I had to turn away,” said Fred Rochester of Prevailing Word Ministries.

“For men to go to women to get help from porn, it’s not good.
A man needs either a man that kept himself from porn or was in it and is completely delivered over at least 3 or more years including masturbation by the grace and obedience to God and His Word to effectively minister.”

He continues,” Besides it must be based on 1 John 3:6 of deliverance. I agree. When you have to use gimmicks, chances are, there will be no gospel.”

In the bible the apostles never taught this kind of foolishness (gimmicks, explicit advertisement) and never should we use who we once were to promote Christ and his message of the Gospel. Why can’t we just do what the bible says do when it comes to ministry.

Thank god at least some churches are addressing issues that are greatly affecting youths and adults, more of this is needed in churches all over of the world. Pornography is a deadly weapon used to enchant the one who views such evil and is a difficult road to recover from. Let young youths defeat it now before it tends to grow stronger in their life over the years.

So many churches do not even openly discuss pornography or masturbation. Although their promoting may be a little unconventional. I would need to hear them present to give an opinion on this church’s initiative.

I thought we figured out a long time ago that worldly catch phrases don’t work! The slogans on the signs need to be worded differntly. I wonder if the Pastor & staff had a discussion with the church body before doing this?
I hope this doesn’t turn into a disaster. For the record my husband would not attend a port & pancakes gathering!

Wow! If this is truly an informative testimonial and she’s dressed modestly, has the covering of her spouse and her church elders and family, by all means, go for it. If she has the intentions of walking in there dressed like a skank and is willing to answer all types of inappropriate questions, she should not even show up. Mary Magdalene had a reputation but once Jesus saved her life, what they once said about her they couldn’t say it anymore. :-)

Amen , it’s an exhibition ( of CHRIST ) not a competition ( who can fill the most seats ) , how do they keep missing ” even so must the Son of man ( CHRIST again ) be lifted up; ” . These people called themselves to preach and the only thing they have is gimmicks . KEEP PREACHING

Fred Rochester, thanks for letting us know, that doesn’t sound too good, racy pics etc. is NOT what folks need to be viewing, especially those trying to get ‘away from’ that stuff.

I have no problem with a special forum to address an issue that quite frankly statistics say effect 48% of Christian homes. Someone NEEDS to address it, it is a crisis, and though this is indeed ultimately a sin issue, personally I believe it is a legal issue. It is addictive, has proven to destroy children, and the average age for children to accidently or purposely view pornography for the first time is 11 years of age.

We don’t want to risk being hyper critical, it hurts our credibility. I session dedicated to over coming the epidemic of pornography addiction would seem appropriate if presented correctly. Even bringing in a delivered ex victim of the sinful industry wouldn’t be out of bounds. It’s all in the presentation, the purpose needs to be clear and careful not to glamorize or entice what is meant to be overcome.

“If” it stays within “Biblical” guidelines and will lead others to the Lord, then maybe there’s a purpose for it. I just hope and pray they keep the Lord and His Word in the forefront from beginning to end.

I am aware of Shelley Lubben. She reaches out to women who are in the porn industry and she informs people espeacially men what really goes on behind the scenes and the lies that porn consumers believe. Im sure people will be informed and helped However i don’t agree with the advertising for the event. It shoukd have been done differently. It might make people in the area think more negatively about the body of Christ.

  11. Florence

I would say, “Thank GOD someone stole the signs but stealing is a sin. 😉 So I’ll just say. Wrong Blllboard message. Also, a man who is addicted to porn may not be helped if that same women is the one that he masturbated too. Duh?? Someone! Let her husband speak for her or the Pastor/Minister. Many where delivered from porn without a porn star.

GODs word/the HOLY Spirit is strong enough to change without the help of an ex porn star. IJS
