Resisting temptation can be difficult at times, but we as believers are required to. When we are tempted, we are drawn away by our “own lusts” according to the word. This literally means that what tempts us is what we have conditioned ourselves to desire. In order to resist temptation we must be reconditioned. This comes by following Christ and conforming to His way.
We can’t keep doing things our way and expect to resist temptation when it comes. When we continue to do things our way, we are creating more things to lust after and this makes us more vulnerable to temptation. Following God’s plan for us will keep us from falling victim to sin. If we want power over temptations then we must follow Christ and forsake our way.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
James 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
